Employment Opportunities
Employment Opportunities
A career with VMG could easily be the most exciting decision you will ever make. After viewing the website, you certainly have a better idea of what we do for our clients. The reason we have been so successful in helping clubs is because we hire motivated and energetic consultants. Unfortunately, lately there are more gyms needing help than we have consultants to help them. We are very selective when it comes to new hires simply because we have a strong reputation in the industry and we need individuals with integrity to continue this success.

Attention Traveling Consultants
New consultants will start their career with VMG conducting Full Campaigns. After you learn the industry, we can begin sending you on more consulting and training assignments. Typically a Full Campaign will last anywhere from 4-12 weeks. In the past year, our consultants have found themselves in Arizona, North Carolina, Texas, Colorado, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Each day is different and exciting because you are constantly meeting and mingling with a variety of new people. Your job in most assignments will be to sell gym memberships. Through a variety of marketing strategies, you will drive potential members through the client’s door. Your personality and passion is what will sell the membership. That is why we seek only the most energetic and the most passionate consultants available. After each campaign, you can choose to take as many as 3 weeks off to be home. Of course if you’re especially hungry, you can get a new campaign started immediately…it’s up to you!

Most of our consultants over the years have had some experience either in the fitness field or sales within a different industry. In all cases, VMG will provide on-the-job training for all new reps. Depending on your experience and how quickly you learn everything, you will be able to end training and begin your own campaign. To make sure our clients get a highly-qualified health club consultant, your training will end when we feel you are skilled enough to successfully represent VMG at their location. All clubs deserve the very best…and we provide them with the very best! This is an opportunity for you to become an expert in the fitness industry. Perhaps you are thinking of opening your own club or are simply looking for a fun sales job with high income potential. Our consultants are regarded as some of the best minds in the fitness industry, simply because they are able to see the good, bad and the ugly at gyms around the nation. What other job in this industry allows you such a birds eye view?

Hiking up creek in Larch Valley

Hiking up creek in Larch Valley

At the recommendation of a hiker met along the trail, we left the Larch Valley trail and hiked cross country then up this lovely little cold clear creek, until we popped out above timberline.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are the photographs taken on the third day of our road trip. It was the best day of weather and best day for hiking and photographing on the entire road trip.
Thursday (Day three of our road trip) was by far the best day of the entire road trip and we covered a lot of ground. Since I sleep 8 hours and it is dark close to 12 hours, I woke up very early Thursday morning in my backpacking tent at Mosquito Creek campground. Fortunately so did J.J. - - so we got an early morning start on the day.
First a quick trip up to the Peyto (Pee Toe) Lake overlook, where JJ hoped to catch some early morning light on the lake. We had the overlook to ourselves until one large tour bus after another unloaded one large load of loud whooping tourists after another, but the light was flat and the sky uncooperative. We took what “memory” shots we could then bailed out heading south the way we had come. We stopped at Hector Lake for some morning reflection photos on our way to Moraine Lake.
At Moraine Lake we took the best hike of the road trip, up to Larch Valley. We had excellent weather and the larch were at their peek in color. What a wonderful experience.
After the hike we returned to the highway and headed north up through the northern half of Banff and all the way to Jasper. We found the lighting interesting and enjoyed having Athabasca Falls to ourselves, so we didn’t roll into Jasper until after dark.
We lucked out and got excellent rooms for two nights at the Marmot Lodge in Jasper. JJ and I gave our best well rehearsed routine for an “old timers’, AARP members, lodging discount”, which the nice people at the lodge generously gave us. It was starting to rain by then and I was glad to have a room motel room with a bedroom, kitchen, and living room, where I could lay out all my wet camping gear from the previous night’s camp out at Mosquito Creek.
We would spend all day Friday roaming the area around Jasper, but by then the weather had turned and we would see nothing but rain and low clouds, most of the time we were in Jasper National Park.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Subalpine Larch “Tamarack” “Tamarack Pine”
[Larix lyallii]

A conifer that sheds its needles, making it a deciduous tree, an anomaly. They are a Larch, though many in the state of Washington call them “Tamarack pine”, even though they aren’t a pine tree.

Before the needles are shed each fall they turn as golden as an aspen or a cottonwood tree and since these particular larch grow at altitude (between 4,000 and 8,000 feet) their golden colors of fall mix, blend and compliment the high altitude fir and spruce.

We have lots of these larch in the Enchantment Lakes area of Eastern Washington. The larger Western and Eastern Larch survive and seem to benefit from forest fire activity. Eastern Larch (called Tamarack) was utilized by Native American, who used their slender, strong roots to sew together their bark canoes. The durable lumber from Tamarack is sought after and used in construction.

As we drove through the Canadian Rockies the Cottonwood lit up the river valleys with their fall color; then the aspen painted the slopes of the mountains and rimmed alpine lakes with gold; and way up high, running right to the very edges of timberline, you could catch the reflection of gold as the sun hit the upper peaks of the mountains. Our hike up from Moraine Lake to Larch Valley was the hi-lite of the road trip for me. The weather was perfect; ice lined the high mountain creeks; the rugged peaks above the Larch Valley, like Pinnacle Mountain and Mt. Temple. It is a five mile round trip hike on excellent trail. You will gain about 1,200’ on the hike from Moraine Lake up into the valley.

You can wander farther and take the zig zag route up to the saddle of Sentinel Pass. We took a stream route and ended up on the bench below the pass and a great panoramic view of Larch Valley and the high peaks above it.

Because this is prime country for grizzly sows and their cubs, you are required to hike in groups of four. We teamed with up with an endless stream of “hiking partners” going both up and back down the trail. We saw several hikers ignoring the rule but most, like us, tried to team up and keep the four person groupings intact (though not always practical).

We were so fortunate to hit this hike on a day with sunshine. When the sunlight hit the patches of Larch they seemed bright enough to force sunglasses. They were mostly the brightest of yellow in color but many had a few needles of chartreuse, which added an artistic “painted by hand” look to their appearance.
]
NOTE: These larch do not grow north of Lake Hector. They have a very restricted range of growth in the Canadian Rockies.

This here is the most famous tree in Male'. Why? Cos its in every photographers portfolio. So today was my turn. This image is a result of an unfortunate confrontation that my friend had with the Traffic Police. He was held up, cos he had no license or registration in the Motorcycle. He had to walk home to fetch them, and until he returned I was asked to wait.

Bad luck for him, good luck for me.

First Free Congregational Church

First Free Congregational Church

Downtown Brooklyn

The First Free Congregational Church, more commonly known as the Bridge Street Church, is a fine and rare example of a vernacular Greek Revival building of the mid-nineteeth century. This style reached the height of its popularity in the 1830s and 1840s but few non-residential buildings of this period remain in Brooklyn. When the Bridge Street Church was constructed fn 1846-47 ' its simple rectangular shape and temple front were still considered ideal architectural forms for a religious structure. The straightforward shape of this brick and wood building, and the lack of applied ornament indicate its modest beginnings and have helped adapt the building to the varied uses it has had since it served a religious congregation.

The land in this part of Brooklyn was originally part of the estate of Dr. John Ouffield. It was surveyed and divided into lots in 1829- The three lots on which the church stands were owned by Samuel Willoughby when they were purchased by the First Free Congregational Church in 1846.

This congregation was organized in 1841 as the First Free Presbyterian Church and it occupied a building at Lawrence and Tillary Streets in Brooklyn. After four years of existence, and with a membership of 150 people, this group decided to change its affiliation to Congregational.

Thus in 1845 they became the First Free Congregational Church and the second of that denomination in Brooklyn. The "Free" in the name refers to the Church's policy of not charging a rental fee for its seats, a common practice in other churches at the time. Under the leadership of their first minister Rev. Isaac N. Sprague, the building on Bridge Street was constructed, at a cost of $14,000. Original plans called for a tower modelled after the Monument of Lysicrates in Athens to be placed on the ridge of the roof, but this was never carried out.

Internal disputes forced the congregation to disband within a fairly short time. By 1854, the building was turned over to six trustees of

the church for the purpose of selling it and paying off all debts. Shortly thereafter, it was bought by the Af ri can Wes leyan Method i st Church. This congregation prospered and remained in the building for eighty-four years.

The A.W.M.E. Church had its beginnings in the eighteenth century when Thomas Webb, a Wes 1 eyan captain in the British Army,travel led from Manhattan to Brooklyn to preach to a small group of followers in open air services. His ministry was carried on by Woolman Hickson later in the century. By 1794, his followers constructed a church in Brooklyn. The congregation, composed of whites, free Negroes, and ex-slaves,became known as the Sands Street Methodist Church. The white people in the congregation harassed the Negroes, requiring them to sit in the crowded gallery and then demanding $10.00 payment for the seats. The blacks withdrew in a body and incorporated in 1818 as the African Wesleyan Methodist Episcopal Church of Brooklyn.

Their first building was on Hiqh Street, between Bridge and Jay Streets. The congregation grew and they acquired this building on Bridge Street in 1854, purchasing it from the hirst Congregational Church for $12,500. By this time membership had reached 292.

The A.W.M.E. Church is the oldest black congregation in Brooklyn and played an important and active role in the anti-slavery movement. Many escaping slaves were housed in the basement of this building as they made their way northward to freedom.

A fire burned part of the building in I885 but the damage seems to have

been limited to the inside. It was repaired and furnishings replaced within months.4

The A.W.M.E. Congregation remained in the building until 19^8. Then the church followed most of its members who had moved to the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. The building was sold to another religious organization, the Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ. This group held the building for almost two years, until the end of 1949- For the following five years, the building was owned by a businessman and its use as a church was at an end. The area of Brooklyn where it was located had become commercial rather than residential, and the building was coverted for industrial use.

From 1955 until 1968, it housed classrooms and office space for the Institute of Design and Construction, a school devoted to the building trades. In 1968, it was taken over by the Polytechnic Institute of New York, the present owners of the building. Some exterior changes were made to adhere to building codes, but the majority of work took place on the interior. The result is that the building appears today much as it did when it was constructed in the mid-nineteenth century.

This building's debt to the Greek Revival style can be seen in the two fluted wooden columns and the low-pitched, full-width pediment in front. The Greek Revival had been a very popular style in the early 1800s and the temple front was considered quite fitting for a

i finally got to make what would hopefully be considered a real quilt! it was sweet lil' annalie's second birthday yesterday and we wanted to give her something special that she could hopefully enjoy for a very long time. she'll be moving back to the states in about a year and i thought it would be nice for her to have something to remember us by long after our ways have parted.

about the quilt... it measures about 85 by 115cm. most of the fabrics are alexander henry prints. i tried to use fabrics which her mom has used to make clothes for her but only had a few of the wonderful prints she chooses. i did lots of machine applique which worked better and faster than i had feared it would. the batting is one half of a light polyester ikea blanket (yup, we're cheap like that). the backing is an ikea cotton print. it's all machine pieced and free-motion quilted. i machined topstitched the (not at all bias) bias instead of handsewing it and will continue to use this unorthodox method until my kid's are grown and i can afford to spend all that extra time on projects. about the actual quilting... i was very close to spending a good bit of cash on getting a quilting foot for my not-so-fancy modern machine but figured i should at least try and see if for some random reason all the cool little extra feet that came with my butt-kickin' vintage pfaff would fit on the newer machine. gasp! totally works! i'm of course stoked. anyways, i took a 4" practice sandwich and as soon as i had free-motion sewn my first halfway decent looking line decided to just brave it. i had NOT read a tutorial or anything on this technique and instead decided i'd figure it out as i went. so the quilting is very much less than perfect but i'm still quite happy with the way it turned out. at some point about halfway through i started breaking needles like crazy. i broke every single needle i had in the three sizes i thought would be acceptable for this task (a total of seven or more needles!!) so my sweet husband made a quick trip to the department store to get some more notions for me. i'm still unsure what caused the problem but think it may have had something to do with the applique. which is why at that point i decided to leave quilting the applique bits til the end. i managed to quilt over them all without breaking any more needles but because i quilted around them first, those spots (especially the letters) ended up looking a little funky. oh well. ;)

so yes, here it is, my first quilt. i'm very proud of it and hoping the next one will take only half as long to make. this one probably took an estimated 15-20 hours from choosing the fabrics and designing the layout to finish.

May 28th, 2008

Today was absolute insanity.
I woke up around 3 or 4 in the afternoon and I had to decided weather or not I was going to the library with Mom & Liz or if I was going to John's girlfriend's concert at the high school.

Being the asshole that I am, I chose the library. I know that I should've went and I feel like an idiot that I didn't. =/

I somehow managed to straighten my hair, get dressed, do my makeup AND do John's hair. I was running around like a nut to get everything finished but surprisingly, I did. So, John left for the concert and we finally left for the library. We stopped at the police station because Mom needed to pick up papers (she works there) then we set out for Monroeville. We get out the library and it seems just about everyone gives us the cold shoulder, which I sorta didn't mind because their all assholes in my opinion. They pretty much have no fucking clue what their doing. Anyhow, we were there and I got on, checked my shit and then I let Mom on while I went searching for books. I went to the Photography section and picked out some books and then I went to the Teen section but I didn't really find anything that I wanted to read.

I FINALLY printed out that shit for Nikon. I need to send my camera to them for them to look at it. As we were leaving the cute guy at the library held the door open for us but when I said thank you he said absolutely nothing. I kinda felt that it was rude. Usually I'm that nerdy chick holding the door open for men. (and they never say thank you or ANYTHING!)

Bottom Line: Penn Hills is filled with alot of assholes. And the funny thing is, is that it's not just Penn Hills. It's surrounding area's too. I suppose you find assholes everywhere but still.

We left the library, went to Sheetz. I got my free coffee and Liz bought me a sandwich that was mainly stuffed with lettuce. Niccccccce. After, we went to borders, I hobbled around with my fucked up leg. Then we left, went to Shop n' Save and then we went and saw the outside of an apartment building which one of Liz's ex friends live in. Then we came home where I watched Howl's Moving Castle (I watched it half way through and got bored) so I popped in Blood and Chocolate.

That's basically it. I suppose this makes up for the Little to No detail/information on recent posts.

~ I like the technical aspect of Photography. I find it interesting. Liz bought me an Allure. oh how Allure is god. <333333333333

project 52, week 19

project 52, week 19

I'm a makeup girl. I went through this phase when I was about 14 when I refused to wear it because it "took too much time." (I also wore plaid shirts and pulled my waist-length hair back ALL THE TIME, but that's another story.) But once I started, I haven't gone back.
Growing up in a houseful of girls, my dad didn't want us all running around looking like floozies, so there was one simple rule: we could wear as much makeup as we wanted, as long as he couldn't tell we had it on. Being a guy, it took A LOT before he noticed, but that rule kept me from many of the blue-eyeshadow-related mishaps that befall so many teens. (I had plenty of plaid shirts to make up for it.) Anyway, after I started wearing makeup I swiftly learned to apply it in a very subtle manner, and although I wear it a little more dramatically now, I've not stopped wearing it since. Not only do I not go out in public without makeup, I usually wear it around the house. So now it's my mask, my armor, my defense against the world.
But sometimes, when it's the day after shooting a wedding, and I'm kicking around my apartment, tackling laundry and grocery shopping and the cleaning that gets ignored during the week, it somehow feels right to have a clean-scrubbed face.
But this is the closest I'm getting to posting makeup-free photos. For now.

Feeling Great, Looking Hot and Loving Yourself!: Health, Fitness and Beauty for Teens

"No one knows the value of 'looking hot' as much as teens do. Having it 'together' can spell the difference between being one of the crowd-or not. But the 'success potion' isn't found in a bottle or a pill any more than in a great outfit or the latest hairstyle, eye shadow or nail polish. It's also more important than winning the approval it takes to be the most popular 'in' person at school. The really 'beautiful' are those comfortable in their own skin, who make the most of their natural beauty and have learned to like themselves. Jennifer's practical advice will show you how."
-Kate MacIsaac
1997 Miss California Teen All American
Miss Teen U.S.A.

Jennifer Leigh Youngs, coauthor of the bestseller, Taste Berries for Teens, created this complete guidebook for every girl's teen years. Ranging the gamut from healthy eating, fitness and stress reduction, to skin and hair care, fashion, makeup and more, this book offers girls all they need to feel beautiful, inside and out.
Although the author offers helpful tips on all of the above, even more important, she shows girls that it's what's on the inside that truly makes each of us beautiful. This book also includes photographs, which beautifully and effectively illustrate the principles the author teaches. As they journey through the challenging years of adolescence, girls will find the information and advice in this book invaluable. This book is destined to become a favorite with teens and adolescents.
